About us

Age UK Medway is a local charity working in the community to support older people in Medway, their families and their carers.  We want everyone to be able to love later life, and that’s why we do what we do.   So that even when people grow old, they can still feel young”

During the last forty years, Age UK Medway has built a strong local reputation for quality, providing a full range of care and support services for the growing older population of the Medway Towns. We are committed to providing the highest possible standard of care and support for older people with responsive and flexible services.

The range of services has continued to expand to meet the changing needs of the local older population and Government, Local Authority and Health agendas.

We aim to continue to be a powerful presence in the Medway and Kent communities for at least another 40 years, ensuring that older people in our community are cared for with dignity and their independence promoted.

During the pandemic, our incredible staff and volunteer teams worked to keep in touch with and support our local older communities by providing emergency shopping packs.  Our meal delivery service surged from an average of just 20 meals a day to 160 meals a day.  We also developed our virtual day services and welfare calls and produced 400 pages of engaging activities to keep our clients stimulated in their own homes.

Age UK Medway has now resumed its normal vital support services and as well as bathing and foot care offers the following:

·   Our homecare services in Medway and Faversham provide support to help with shopping, cleaning and gardening. We help over 100 older people to get their shopping every month.

·   Our social club in Gillingham offers a safe and comfortable environment for clients to enjoy interaction with peers from their community.  With a meal included in the cost as well as transport, and access to the day trips that take place, and even a spot of bingo!

·    Our Dementia Day Services in Chatham provide specialised dementia care to anyone with a diagnosis, no matter where someone is on their journey with this condition

·    The Flexible Dementia Outreach Service is designed to enable individuals who are experiencing the early stages of a cognitive illness to be supported by pursuing their interests, taking part in meaningful activities, and maintaining their independence

·    The Pat Warner Suite is a specialist self-contained dementia centre housed within the Mackenney Centre in Gillingham.  It provides support to people living with dementia who reside in the Gillingham, Rainham, and Parkwood areas

·     Our COGS therapy groups consist of cognitive stimulating activities for people who have recently been diagnosed with dementia or are worried about their memory

·     Our volunteer befrienders visit lonely older people in the community who have no-one to talk to.  In 2016 our volunteers visited more than 200 older people who would otherwise be alone.

·     The Welfare Fund aims to assist those that are in a temporary financial hardship to access our services, while the information and advice team at Sittingbourne and Faversham work with them to gain access to the funds they may be entitled to.

Age UK Medway provides a much loved and valued service for the community.

We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our service!

Thank you for your support and good luck!

Yours sincerely,

Karen Treacy
